On Dec. 22, the renewal signing ceremony of the “Tsinghua University – Mitsubishi Heavy Industry Joint Research Center” was held in Gongziting, marking the start of another five-year period of strategic cooperation. Xue Qikun, Vice President of Tsinghua University, and Sumiu Uchida, Head of Research & Innovation Center, attended the signing ceremony and gave speeches. The leaders of both sides spoke highly of the research results, in particular in the area of gas turbines. Xue Qikun expressed Tsinghua’s gratitude for cooperation in scientific research with Mitsubishi Heavy Industry and for its financial and project support for Tsinghua’s talent cultivation. Sumiu Uchida and Ma Jun, Director of the Department of Overseas Projects, Office of Scientific R&D, signed the renewal agreement on behalf of each side, witnessed by Academician Ni Weidou, Prof. Yuan Xin from the Department of Energy and Power Engineering, Takashi Ishide, Chief Engineer of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, and Hikaru Tashiro, Technical Senior Advisor of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
On the same day the 2017 Tsinghua – Mitsubishi Heavy Industry Projects Report was also held at the Wenjin Hotel, next to the South Gate of Tsinghua University. Project directors from both sides gave reports covering 23 projects, and representatives of both young teachers and doctoral students shared their cooperative experiences. Zhou Yu, Director of the Office of Scientific R&D, and Mr. Uchida awarded certificates at the conclusion of the meeting to the project directors, and encouraged the researchers to continue their efforts, thereby driving the cooperation to a higher level.
