Scientific Research Administration Forum Held in Hangzhou

Jun. 5, 2017, the Scientific Research Administration Forum of Mainland China and Hong Kong 9+3 Colleges was held in Hangzhou, in which the scientific research administrative departments of 12 top universities from mainland China and Hong Kong discussed the possible measures and policy suggestions for enhancing the scientific cooperation between the two sides. The meeting was aimed at enhancing mutual understanding between colleges in mainland China and in Hong Kong, to promote technological communication and cooperation, under the development guidelines given by the “Cooperation Proposal for ‘First-class College Innovation Network’ Facing 2030” .
 
Leaders from the Integration and Planning Office (Hong Kong-Macau-Taiwan Office, Hong Kong-Macau-Taiwan Division), the International Cooperation Department, Ministry of Science and Technology, and the International Cooperation Division (Hong Kong-Macau-Taiwan Scientific Cooperation Office), as well as Zhejiang Province’s Department of Science and Technology attended the meeting. Representatives in charge of scientific research administration from Peking University, Fudan University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Nanjing University, Tsinghua University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Xi’an Jiaotong University, Hong Kong University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the University of Science and Technology of China and Zhejiang University also attended the meeting. Tsinghua’s Dean of the General Office of Scientific R&D, Zhou Yu, and Vice Dean, Deng Ning, were present and gave speeches.
 
Representatives from all 12 colleges gave summary of the status of each institution, including their cooperative basis between the mainland and Hong Kong, as well as possible areas for future cooperation. During the forum it was suggested to establish a technological consultation mechanism and innovative scientific research league, to conform to national strategic needs and the “Double First-Rate” plan. Other key goals were noted as providing solutions for national strategic targets and cutting-edge scientific and technological problems, as well as innovation in institutional modes of scientific research, with an aim to gather innovative elements, and to strive for ground-breaking innovative results.
