2015 Program Report Meeting and 2016 1st Management Committee Meeting of Tsinghua – Rio Tinto Research Center for Resource, Energy and Sustainable Development
February 29, Tsinghua – The Rio Tinto Research Center for Resource, Energy and Sustainable Development held its program report meeting for 2015, together with the 1st management committee meeting of 2016. Committee members Ren Binyan, President of Rio Tinto China, Helena Robin Bordie, GM of China Research and Analysis at Rio Tinto, Song Xiuli, GM of Rio Tinto China Department of Affairs, Prof. He Jiankun, Prof. Yao Qiang and Dr. Ma Jun attended the meeting. The directors reported on the progress of the various programs within the center, and the committee noted their satisfaction with both the scientific level and timeliness of the 2015 programs.
The committee then discussed the center’s major efforts in 2016, and decided to select programs that may highly impact the future. Committee member from Tsinghua, Prof. He Jiankun raised a suggestion that every program should bring constructive policy suggestions. On the basis of the first phase, it was agreed the center should enhance its promotion activities, including inviting Rio Tinto executives to give lectures at the end of 2016. The renewal of center for a 2nd phase will be in 2017, and the management committee reached an agreement that in order to promote further collaboration, the cooperative mode for the 2nd phase should draw experience from the 1st phase, while making some necessary improvements, including optimizing the allocation of finance and research resources.
