Mr. Hiroaki Nakanishi, President and Representative Executive Officer of Hitachi, made a visit to Tsinghua University on March 21. Kang Kejun, Vice President of Tsinghua University had discussions with Mr. Nakanishi, in which they exchanged ideas on the further promotion of collaboration between Tsinghua and Hitachi in research on energy, environment, and urban development, in order to make contributions to economic and social development together. Before the meeting Mr. Nakanishi also paid a visit to the Tsinghua History Gallery.
Established in 1910, Hitachi Ltd. ranked No. 40 in 2011 in the list of Fortune 500 companies, having a 100 billion annual turnover in 2011. As a global comprehensive enterprise, Hitachi operates in a wide range of business areas, and has an array of technological, production and solution technologies. As one of the earliest overseas members of the Tsinghua University-Industry Cooperation Committee, Hitachi has a long term partnership with Tsinghua University. Through this partnership Hitachi has set up several joint labs in research areas such as green ICT and laser technology with Tsinghua University, conducting collaborative research projects with the departments of Electrical Engineering, Thermal Engineering and the School of Environment of Tsinghua University. Additionally, Hitachi also has provided great support to the fostering of talent in Tsinghua University by sponsoring student lectures on information technology and by supporting competitions on electrical design. In the future, Hitachi plan to emphasize infrastructure and smart city technology as the main focus for its business in China. The company hopes to strengthen its research collaboration with Tsinghua University in areas such as energy saving, environmental protection and smart city technology.
