From October 13rd and 14th, scholars from the National Tsinghua University (Hsinchu) , and over 40 scholars specialized in the research of energy and nanotechnology from Tsinghua University attend the 5th Cross-Straits Tsinghua Energy and Nanotechnology Symposium, which is held at Tsinghua University in Beijing.

The Symposium was organized by the Office of Scientific R&D of Tsinghua University. The parallel group discussion on energy and nanotechnology were respectively organized by the Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology and the Department of Materials Science and Engineering of Tsinghua. The parallel group meeting on Oct. 13rd, involved the aspects of the research in nuclear energy, renewable energy, nanomaterial technology and application, and GHG reduction technology. Researchers from the Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology, the Departments of Materials Science and Engineering, Thermal Engineering, Engineering Physics, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, the Schools of Aerospace, Environment and Law took part in the discussion.
At the plenary meeting on Oct. 14th, Kang Kejun, vice president of Tsinghua University and Ye Mingquan, vice president of National Tsinghua University (Hsinchu), gave speeches reviewing the R&D collaboration of two universities, and making suggestions on how to promote further cooperation in energy, nanotechnology and other fields in the future. Academician Ni Weidou, from the Department of Thermal Engineering of Tsinghua University, Zhang Zhengjun, Dean of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering of Tsinghua University, Kai Zhizhong, Director of the Center for Energy and Environmental Research of National Tsinghua University, and Xie Guangqian, Director of the Center for Nanotechnology of National Tsinghua University, delivered detailed introduction on the developmental demands and strengths of each university in fields of energy and nanotechnology. Project Investigators of the independent research projects from both universities, Zhu Yongfa from the Department of Chemistry of Tsinghua University, Liu Jing from the School of Medicine of Tsinghua University, Ma Zhenji from the Department of Chemical Engineering and Liu Chengxian from the Department of Power Mechanical Engineering of National Tsinghua University (Hsinchu), gave reports on achievements resulting from the research in nanotechnology and new energy batteries.
On Oct. 14th, the presidents of two Tsinghua universities exchanged their ideas on cooperative model and potential of two univesities in the future. In the afternoon of the same day, the delegation of National Tsinghua University (Hsinchu) also visited labs of Tsinghua University (Beijing) .
