On Dec. 8, the 12th Management Committee Meeting of Tsinghua University-Toyota Research Center was held in Tsinghua University. Mr. Yuan Si, Vice President of Tsinghua University, Mr. Takeshi Uchiyamada, Deputy Director of Toyota Motor Corp., and committee members from both sides attended the meeting held by Ms. Ma Jun, Director of Overseas R&D Management Office. Research center director, Academician Hao Jiming, gave a report on the 8 joint projects in 2011. The committee gave advice on the job of next phase, and a candidate list of a new academic committee was passed. Mr. Yuan Si highly spoke of the collaboration of Tsinghua University and Toyota. He said, the joint projects have the following features: related to people’s livelihood, exploring the cutting edge of technology, facing global issues, combining personnel fostering and very fruitful. The first 5-year collaboration has gained results that won acclaim from experts and the government. Now the centenary of Tsinghua University opened up the second 5-year collaboration. In October, Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (China) was established in Changshu. The research focus of TMEC would be designing models that are suitable for Chinese drivers, promoting the localization of new-energy automobiles, and carrying out further cooperative projects with various Chinese institutes.
