Jan. 19, a delegation led by Mr. Jim Beckett, Vice President of Philips Healthcare, visited the Tsinghua Center for Biomedical Imaging Research, and signed an official research agreement. The signing ceremony was co-chaired by Prof. Ren Yuanchun, Director of the Center, and As. Prof. Li Rui. Mrs. Ma Jun, Director of the Overseas R&D Management Office, and Mr. Jim Beckett signed the agreement.
According to the agreement, Philips would provide a sum of 1.2 million USD research fund for the center, and will send full-time research experts to participate in the research activities of the center. Also, they would coordinate the R&D, Technology, Marketing and After-Service Department of Philips to provide resource support for the center. In addition, Philips would also provide open soft/hardware development platform for magnetic resonance imaging, helping the research of the center. After the signing ceremony, representatives from Philips toured the center and heard the work report of the center. The initial research would mainly focus on magetic resonance imaging, and in the future they would bring in ultrasonics, PET and ultra-high field NMR, etc. to build a multiple-modes imaging center. Through the center, Tsinghua would communicate with healthcare suppliers including Philips, establishing overall research cooperation, thus promoting the development of the university in fields like nuclear medicine, ultrasonics, imaging navigation interventional treatment and molecular imaging.
