201012-Tsinghua-General Electric (GE) Academic Exchange

On October 27 over 20 researchers from the Departments of Biomedical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automation and Engineering Physics, the School of Aerospace, and the School of Software of Tsinghua University made a visit to GE Healthcare in Yizhuang, Beijing, to take part in a Tsinghua-GE academic exchange activity. Dai Ying, General Manager of GE Healthcare Global Technology R&D (China), extended a warm welcome to the Tsinghua delegates, who were given a tour of the manufacturing site and the semi-anechoic chamber lab of GE. Dai Ying also gave a detailed explanation of the production flow within GE key medical products, the technology involved, and the demands for technological improvement. After the manufacturing site tour, Dai Ying introduced the development strategy and the R&D team of GE Healthcare in China.

GE Healthcare has seven global manufacturing bases in China: the one located in Yizhuang mainly produces CT scan systems, magnetic resonance image-forming systems and X-ray image-forming systems. It also acts as major R&D center for GE Healthcare worldwide.

After the on-site visit, the researchers from Tsinghua University and GE R&D Center participated in group discussions focusing on the fields of signal processing, computer software, mechanical engineering and reliability design.

The academic exchange activity was organized by the UICC (overseas division) and by GE Healthcare R&D Center, with the aim to help researchers from Tsinghua and GE to understand each other’s research strengths and interests so as to promote bilateral research collaboration in the future.
