On October 15 a Forum on Energy, Economy, and the Environment was held together with the 2010 UICC Annual Meeting in the Reception Hall of the Main Building at Tsinghua University. Nearly 170 guests, including leaders from the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SOASAC) and from the Ministry of Science and Technology, distinguished scholars in the areas of energy, economy and environment, and representatives of UICC member enterprises, attended this event.
President of Tsinghua University, Gu Binglin gave the opening address. The Vice President of Tsinghua University and Chairman of the UICC, Kang Kejun gave a UICC report titled “Integrate Resources, Deepen Cooperation, Innovate Pattern, Bring about a New Situation of University-Industry Cooperation”. Wang Jinli, Vice President of China Shenhua Energy Company Limited, and Maurizio Marchesini, Global Technology President of P&G, representing domestic and overseas members of UICC respectively, each delivered a keynote speech at the meeting.
Eight enterprises were welcomed as new members of the UICC in the meeting: Siemens, SK, KONE, TPV Technology Group, China Telecom, China 22Mcc Group, Beijing Century Zhuoke Energy Technology and Ningxia Baota Petrochemical Group.
Yuan Yue, President of Horizon Research Consultancy Group, and moderator of the Dragon TV “Brain Storm TV Program”, chaired the panel discussion. During the discussion, Kang Kejun, Chen Yunhua (General Manager of Ertan Hydropower Development Company Limited), Akira Sudo (Executive Officer, Corporate Senior Vice President of Toshiba Corporation), Sean Milloy (Vice President of Cummins), and Todd Glickman (Associate Director of Corporate Relations, MIT Industrial Liaison Program), engaged in a deep discussion and exchanged ideas on university-industry cooperation.
In the afternoon session of the meeting, two renowned scholars gave special thematic reports to the audience. Prof. He Jiankun, Vice Chairman of the University Council, Tsinghua University, and Director of the Laboratory of Low Carbon Energy, Tsinghua University, gave a speech entitled “The Challenge of Climate Change and The Countermeasures of Low Carbon Development”. Prof. Wei Jie, Head of the Department of Business Strategy and Policy, School of Economics and Management (SEM), Tsinghua University, delivered a speech entitled “Global and Chinese Economic Trends and Countermeasures”.
Since its establishment in 1995, the Tsinghua University-Industry Cooperation Committee (UICC) has developed a diverse and systematic service mechanism to promote cooperation between the university and enterprises and to accelerate technology transfer. In the future, the UICC will attach great importance to exploring new patterns of university- industry cooperation, aiming to promote a more comprehensive cooperation between Tsinghua and enterprises.
