On October 20 the signing ceremony of the Boeing-Tsinghua Joint Research Center was held in the Liu Qing Building of the Department of Engineering Physics, Tsinghua University. Kang Kejun, Vice President of Tsinghua University, and Matt Ganz, Vice President and General Manager of Boeing Research & Technology, signed the cooperation agreement on behalf of two parties. The joint research center is founded to conduct collaborative scientific research in the fields of passenger cabin environment, applications of computer science in aviation, aerospace materials, and industrial design.
Kang Kejun acknowledged the establishment of the joint research center on behalf of Tsinghua University noting that Boeing, as the leading aircraft manufacturer in the world, has strong capacity in technology transfer as well as a large market in China, while Tsinghua University is known for its research strength in aviation-related areas such as safety science and technology and material science. Kang Kejun expressed his hope that both parties could make full use of these strengths in the collaboration to strive for great achievements.
Matt Ganz also expressed at the ceremony that Boeing was honored to have the opportunity to cooperate with Tsinghua University. He hoped that the joint research center would assist in the development of advanced aerospace technology and products to meet market demands, and would help to contribute to aviation development in China.
The Tsinghua-Boeing Joint Research Center is affiliated to the Department of Engineering Physics of Tsinghua University; Fan Weicheng, member of Chinese Academy of Engineering, has been appointed as the director of the joint research center. The scientific collaboration will involve researchers from the departments of Engineering Physics, Materials Science and Engineering, Industrial Engineering, the School of Aerospace, the School of Software, and the School of Architecture of Tsinghua University.
