From October 10 to 15 a delegation of over 30 researchers from the Departments of Materials Science, Thermal Engineering, and Environmental Science and Engineering at Tsinghua University visited Tsinghua University of Xinzhu and participated in the 4th Cross-Straits Tsinghua Energy and Nanotechnology Symposium. The delegation was led by Zhuang Lijun, Vice Chairman of the University Council, and Jiang Peixue, Executive Deputy Director of Office of Scientific R&D, The topics discussed during the symposium encompassed greenhouse gas emission reduction, nuclear energy technology, renewable energy, battery technology, biomedical engineering, material science and mechanical engineering. The symposium provided an opportunity for researchers from the two universities to share information concerning research developments, to discuss fields of mutual interest, and to explore ideas for potential collaboration so as to lay a good foundation for future cooperation.
From 2007, The first Cross-Straits Tsinghua Energy and Nanotechnology Symposium is held once a year. Over the past 3 years the scope of the meeting has been widened to include more and more disciplines into the cross-straits Tsinghua academic exchange. This kind of ongoing exchange promotes both scientific competitiveness and indigenous innovation capability and facilitates an open, mobile, and competitive academic cooperation mechanism between both universities.
