Abstract: The goal of our laboratory is to develop micro- and nano-scale printing techniques for the direct-write of 3D designer scaffolds used for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. The breadth of our focus spans the full range of physical dimensions (from nano- to micro- to meso-scale), time span (from femtoseconds to days), and biological dimensions (from molecular to cellular to tissue). In this talk, I will discuss my laboratory’s recent research efforts in femtosecond laser stereolithography, DMD projection printing, and nanoimprinting to create 3D scaffolds using a variety of biomaterials. These 3D biomaterials are functionalized with precise control of micro-architecture, mechanical properties (e.g. stiffness and Poisson’s ratio), and growth factor. Such biomaterials provide enhanced knowledge of cell-material interactions at nano and microscales in response to integrated physical and chemical stimuli. These fundamental studies allow us to create advanced therapeutic systems for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. |
